Blackpool Airport

Blackpool Airport is very handy for Garstang residents being only a short drive away and now that Blackpool Airport is offering flights to Alicante, Malaga, Tenerife and more it is of more interest to Garstang residents who do not wish to make the journey to and from Manchester Airport when travelling on holiday or business.

Blackpool Airport however is a small airport and in order to achieve reasonable passenger traffic needs to have a low cost operator flying from the airport at the moment that operator is Jet2.com and an excellent airline it is.

I have recently been for a two week trip to Calpe in Spain, flying into Alicante Airport from Blackpool Airport with Jet2.com. The price of the flights was very reasonable and the aircraft excellent, I was particularly surprised by the amount of leg room on the Boeing 737 Aircraft, this and the excellent aircrew made for a very pleasant journey and not the horrors that I have heard of with other operators.

Blackpool Airport is a very small airport this gives it some charm and a warm atmosphere lacking the hustle and bustle of larger airports and making for a pleasant start and end to ones holiday.

There is however one drawback with the whole Blackpool Airport experience and it is something that Garstang residents should be aware of.

We arrived early for our check in, this is easy as Blackpool Airport is only a steady thirty minute drive from Garstang, checked our luggage in which took about fifteen minutes, passenger check in having been done on the Internet prior to going to the airport, but when we went to pass through to security we were unable to get through the electronic gate.

There was no one around to assist us in getting through to the security check but another passenger explained we needed a ticket from the machine on the wall over there. What we had to do was purchase a ticket each at a cost of ten pounds each in order to be able to pass through to security, this was an unexpected cost and could hit travellers pretty hard, particularly families, when using Blackpool Airport.

There was a sign above the machine explaining that this charge was for the development of Blackpool Airport. Surely it up to the shareholders to pay for developing the assets of Blackpool Airport, no shares in the company were offered in exchange for the twenty pounds, two passengers. This is an unjustifiable sting on passengers. This did not stop me from enjoying my trip to Spain and I would certainly use Jet2.com and Blackpool Airport again, is is very accessible from Garstang and the trip from the airport to Garstang at the end of the holiday is a rather pleasant one, certainly a lot better than the motorway slog from Manchester.
