Who put the chip in the bin?

Recently residents in Lancashire's Wyre borough have discovered that a surveillance device has been hidden in the grey wheelie bin that the council issued to households.

Following discovery of the device by a concerned householder and the subsequent publicity, on the internet and in the traditional local newspapers, the Council have admitted that they are responsible for hiding the devices in the bins.

Apparently the decision to do this was taken by a council employee without informing the elected councillors.

Once they had been found out, the usual excuses were swiftly delivered, "its for our own good", "the council knows best", "they want to reward us" and of course "there is nothing for us to worry about".

Should we be worried about the chip in the bin?

The answer to this one of course is that we do not know, we do not know anything about the surveillance device, what information can it gather? How far can it transmit the information? For all we know what appears to be the cover could also be a device, as this was all done in secret we simply do not know.

Should we be worried about the chap who put the chip in the bin?

Should we be be concerned that a council employee thought it right and proper to place a covert surveillance device into every home in the borough?

We most certainly should, we should also be concerned that the plot was able to go ahead and actualy be carried out.

Once council employees were public servants now it seems they see themselves, or some of them do, as our jailors, the tags they put on criminals are not hidden, the tags they put on the law abiding citizens were hidden.

Is it lawfull to remove it? After all the council own the bin.

I am not a solicitor and am not offering any legal advice here however if I find any device hidden around my home I shall remove it.

I understand that the human rights act guarantees privacy and the fact that this was done in secret and the device hidden would be significant.

Sometimes in the fight for freedom it is necesary to stand up against tyrany. This is not about waste disposal, it is about planting covert surveillance devices on the general population. It is about planting one on me, its personal.

If you would like to know where the device is hidden, or even how to remove it, here is the information you need.

The device is located at the front of the bin. under the lip at the top left. The green arrow marks the spot on this picture.

The cover over the device can be seen with the bin laid on its back.

A flat blade screwdriver can be used to prize the cover out of the containing hole. To reveal the chip behind.

The surveillance device on the left and the cover on the right. With the cover this way up a manufacturers label can clearly be seen, the cover was fitted with the label inside so as to hide the device. The colour can be seen here as the cover is pictured laying on the bin.

A safe wheelie bin, de chipped, privacy restored.
