Garstang Art Music Festival 2011

Running from Saturday 20th August to Monday 29th August, bank holiday Monday. This ten day festival of Arts and Music has been running now for many years growing from strength to strength each year with this year promising to be the best yet.

Garstang Arts and Music Festival is held in the pretty market town of Garstang on the banks of the River Wyre. 2011 promises to be even more spectacular with the Inaugural Town Crier Competition as the Grand Finale to ten days of varied events.

The Arts Festival is co-ordinated by the Garstang Arts Festival Committee in conjunction with local community groups. Funding comes from ticket sales and donations.

Concert with Galloways Community Choir

After their inspired performance at last years Garstang Arts and Music Festival, Galloways make a welcome return to Garstang. Under the enthusiastic direction of Jeff Borradaile, this talented choir, with more than 60 members from all over the region, bring another fantastic programme of harmonised singing for you to enjoy.

Violin Recital.

With Patricia Donnelly and Alan Free on the Piano

Patricia returns to Garstang Arts and Music Festival. for her final visit, touching on many aspects of her long career in music both with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and freelance. This short recital, with colleague and talented pianist Alan Free, will be a selection of her favourite pieces.

A busy Garstang festival day on the High Street with the Weekly Market and street entertainers.

Ally the Clown from 11am to 2-00pm. The Silver Bells and Creeping Bentgrass will entertain at various times throughout the day.

Concert with Sylvan Sounds Ladies Choir.

This is the first time this versatile Ladies Choir from Fleetwood have performed at the Garstang Arts Festival. Created in 1997 by Musical Director Sylvia Swan, Sylvan Sounds has performed throughout the North West and further afield. They are known for programmes which are rich in songs based on the Folk Music of the British Isles & Europe but also include some modern compositions. David Chadwick is their valued accompanist on the piano.

Trovatori Singers in Concert

Opera singers Caroline Lester, Soprano, and Darren Clarke, Tenor, return to Garstang Arts and Music Festival to entertain with their unique style. They perform a wide variety of music with arias and duets from opera, well known favourites from musicals and traditional folk songs accompanied by classical guitar.

Town Criers’ Competition

As the finale to this year’s Garstang Arts and Music Festival and for the first time in Garstang, the Town Criers’ Competition promises to be both colourful and entertaining.

Twelve Criers and their Escorts, from across the North West and beyond, will be attending, dressed in their splendid costumes and ringing their bells.

Garstang’s Town Town Crier, Hilary McGrath will host the event. Venue & Times: The parade will leave Garstang Arts Centre at 11am and walk through the town to Cherestanc Square, where the competitions will take place.

The 1st Round will start at 11-45am and the 2nd Round at 2-15pm. with a Children’s Fun Competition at 3-15pm.
