Garstang Food and Drink Festival the Garstang and Bowland Banquet.
October can see the seven day food and beverage extravaganza that is the Garstang and Bowland Banquet or colloquially the Garstang Food and Drink Festival.
This celebration of local produce from the Bowland Fells and farms and pastures around Garstang highlighting the variety of locally produced foods.
From Scorton we have Sykes Farm lamb, grazed on the heather clad slopes of Harris End Fell. Wild boar and pork from The Trough of Bowland, finest quality local grown beef all processed locally and hung longer for exquisite flavour and texture. No food miles and emissions here.
Garstang butchers will be displaying their preparation techniques with fine cuts of meat, sausages, bacon, hams and a variety of cooked meats and pies of all shapes and flavours.
There will be poultry from Eagland Hill and game from the Bowland Fells to the shores of Morecambe Bay, fish and shellfish from Wyre Fisheries and Morecambe Bay and smoked products from the Lancaster Smoke House at Glasson Dock.
From Pilling we shall have Pilling Potatoes and root vegetables, vegetable and salad produce from the market gardeners of Scorton, Garstang and Over Wyre.
Cheese lovers will be well catered for as Garstang is at the heart of Cheeses production in Lancashire and is home to Dewlay maker of the famous Garstang Blue Cheese. From Barton we shall have cheeses from JJ Sandham traditional cheese maker and of course Mrs Kirkhams cheeses from Goosnargh along with other local cheese makers.
Local bakers will be displaying a myriad of loaves and baked products, Garstang cake bakers with mouthwatering cakes and fancies will tempt the palette of all.
Of course the finest ingredients are only the start and local chefs will be displaying their talents with preparation and cooking demonstrations and workshops, not only intricate work but simple wholesome and still delicious cooking as well.
Fine ingredients and talented cooking there can be only one outcome, a Garstang and Bowland Banquet fit for a king.
Booths and local shopkeepers will be supporting Garstang Food Festival with displays and offers, Garstang Pubs and Restaurants will offer special meals and deals for all the family.
