A short afternoon walk around Garstang Millenium field and River Wyre.
The new car park and Booths new Garstang store under construction. Due to open late summer 2009 you can see it is a very large building for Garstang.
Lots of cars at the High Street riverside car park. A splendid day for a walk.
The river is well down, lots of ducks but not many people about.
The footpath alongside the river up to the Millenium field.
In the centre of the first Millenium Field we have the sculpture of the Hand and some stonework on the floor.
Not sure what the stonework on the floor represents but a pleasant bit of public art none the less.
Wood carving of a Cuckoo alongside the gate to the second field.
I think these are Bat Boxes on the trees. We are lucky to have a good Bat population around Garstang and I had the great pleasure of having bats at my home for several years although they are a lot fewer lately.
The eastern ford access, the west access is about thirty yards upstream. To ford the river you drive into the river then along the river for about thirty yards then out again. Only attempt this in a four wheel drive and only when the river is well down. In fact don't try it at all, use the bridge between Garstang and Forton.
The Garstang agricultural show will be held here on Saturday 1st August 2009. The Garstang show is probably the finest one day show in the country and attracts huge crowds. A splendid day out highly recommended.
Out we come from Wyre Lane onto the Lancaster Road. A lovely short walk by the time I was home an hour and a quarter.
